It was Beef Stew and Biscuits

Last night we had beef stew and biscuits, here is my recipe

Beef Stew
4 Tbs flour
2 lbs beef stew meat cut into 3/4" pieces
2 Tbs cooking oil
1 cup vegetable juice
2 cups beef broth
1 cup water
1 medium onion cut into wedges
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried marjoram
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 bay leaf
3 cups cubed potatoes
1 cup frozen cut green beans
1 cup frozen whole kernel corn
1 cup sliced carrots

coat meat cubes with flour (shake them together in a plastic ziplock bag).  In a large saucepan or Dutch oven brown meat in hot oil; drain off the fat. Add vegetable juice, broth, water, onion worcestershire sauce, bouillon cubes, oregano, marjoram, pepper and bay leaf. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer and cook covered for 1 1/2 hours.

Stir in potatoes, green beans, corn and carrots. Return to boiling, reduce heat once again to a simmer and cook covered for another 30 minutes or until veggies are tender. Find the bay leaf and discard it (or wait for it to turn up in someone's bowl)

Mom's Baking Powder Biscuits
2 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
2 tsp sugar
1 stick butter
2/3 cup milk

Sift together first 5 ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add Milk all at once. Stir only until dough follows a fork. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1/2 minute. dough should be JUST past the sticky stage. Pat dough until it is 1/2" thick and cut with a glass.  Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450' for 10-12 minutes.
